Mariam Juma

Project Officer

Shishiyu AP - Maswa, Simiyu

Mariam Juma Mkalimbe is a qualified project management and community development professional with a strong academic background. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Participatory Project Planning and Management from the Tengeru Institute of Community Development and a Diploma in Community Development from the Buhare Community Development Training Institute. While her education formally grounds her in community-driven development, her practical skills allow her to work easily across different jobs. Over the past five years, she has successfully adapted to various working environments in different regions of Tanzania, ranging from corporate financial offices and business operations to grassroots agricultural programs. Her field experience includes working within rural communities to help them integrate sustainable agriculture and livestock keeping by adopting the RIPAT model. As Project Officer at Research, Community and Organizational Development Associates (RECODA), she leads implementation of the Shishiyu AP Poultry Keeping Value Chain project, delivered in partnership with World Vision Tanzania (WVT), overseeing group mobilization, procurement and financial management, training delivery, and monitoring and reporting to strengthen household income, nutrition, and food security in Maswa District, Simiyu Region.

Mariam's association with RECODA began in 2020, when she volunteered for three months on the Boresha Lishe Project in Ikungi, Singida DC, a community-based nutrition and agriculture initiative. During this engagement, she promoted hygiene and sanitation, created nutrition awareness through cooking demonstrations and village nutrition days, and participated in training farmers on conservation agriculture practices such as crop rotation and soil management, alongside diversified crop and livestock production, including poultry keeping, orange-fleshed sweet potatoes, iron-rich beans, and banana cultivation.

She rejoined RECODA as Project Officer under a poultry keeping project using poultry mother unit (PMU) model, where she has managed the project at field level, including community mobilization and group formation, multi-supplier procurement, budget and expenditure variance analysis, farmer training, and field monitoring and reporting.

Between these two RECODA engagements, Mariam built a solid track record in operations and financial services management. As Operation Manager at RAYTILL Company Limited (2025–2026), she oversaw day to day operations, budgeting, staffing, and payroll. As Senior Collection Supervisor at Sharp Financial Service Tanzania Limited (2022–2025), she supervised collection operations and procurement, managed field agent performance, and supported the opening of a new branch office. She began her career as a Collection Officer at BRAC (2021), managing client groups and loan disbursement, and as a Field Educator with Willows International Organization (2017–2018), training women on reproductive health and family planning while supporting their social and economic empowerment.

Mariam is also a trained facilitator in entrepreneurship skills, including liquid soap making and stain removal, and brings practical strengths in conflict management, communication, basic bookkeeping, and administration. She is proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Participatory Project Planning and Management from Tengeru Institute of Community Development, and a Diploma in Community Development from Buhare Community Development Training Institute, both grounding her in participatory approaches to community-driven development.

Fluent in Kiswahili and English, Mariam brings adaptability, financial and operational discipline, and hands-on community engagement skills to every role she takes on.
